A five day intensive Technical &<\/strong> Science Writing Workshop<\/strong> will be conducted by faculty  who teach writing at the  Kenyon Review<\/a><\/u> Writers Workshop <\/em><\/strong>conducted at Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio, USA. The workshop is offered specifically for PhD Scholars who have completed comprehensive examination and Prime Minister\u2019s Research Fellows (PMRF) at IIT Madras.

\nExpectations:<\/strong>
\n\nPrior to the workshop, participants will be expected to prepare and submit a brief proposal after reading about six key research articles on their topic of interest. The proposal should contain the following:
\n\n1.Title of the proposal (in 20 words or less)
\n2. Abstract of the proposal (in 200 words or less)
\n3. Objectives of the proposal (in six or less number of bullet points, with each containing at most 30 words)
\n4. Expected outcome of the proposal (in four or less number of bullet points, each containing at most 20 words)
\n5. Origin of the proposal and current state of understanding (in 500 words)
\nDuring the workshop, participants will learn strategies for structuring their technical and scientific writing into compelling narratives and for revising their writing to be both precise and concise. Participants will examine and evaluate examples of technical and scientific writing, write about their research with different audiences in mind, share their writing with the workshop group, and revise their writing according to principles and techniques we discuss in the sessions.

Chris Gillen studies the molecular physiology of ion transport proteins in insect models systems including fruit flies and mosquitoes. His work has been supported by the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. Gillen is director of Kenyon\u2019s creative Science Writing program. Drew Kerkhoff joined Kenyon’s faculty in 2005 after earning a Ph.D. at the University of New Mexico and completing a postdoc at the University of Arizona. He is a quantitative ecologist whose research is motivated by two key environmental challenges: global change (including climate and land use) and biodiversity conservation. He leads the Kenyon Macroecology Lab, where students use computational and field-based approaches to analyze the distribution and evolution of plant biodiversity and the functional role of Earth’s vegetation in the global carbon cycle.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Yutan D. Y. L. Getzler has always liked working with his hands and taking things apart so he can put them back together. Since arriving at Kenyon in 2004, his scholarship has focused on sustainability in materials science. In collaboration with Kenyon undergraduates, he developed one of the first catalysts to make a new topology of poly(lactic acid), a biodegradable plastic derived from annually renewable feedstocks. Another project seeks to understand the design of bespoke degradable polymers for specialty applications. Recent work has built a theoretical framework for an ideal circular polymer economy. His work has been extramurally funded and publications at Kenyon include manuscripts in Macromolecules and Nature Reviews Materials.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
