Anindita Sahoo, Divya A, Santosh Kumar Sahu and Avishek Parui have recently joined the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Madras as new faculty:
Anindita Sahoo Linguistics
Anidita Sahoo obtained her PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India. Her PhD thesis analyzes passive constructions in South Asian languages such as Odia, Kharia and Malayalam. Her primary research interests are in Linguistic Typology and Syntax. Her recent publications focuses on the typology and grammaticalization of passive and copula constructions. She is also interested in language and communication studies from an acquisition and cognitive processing perspective.
Divya A English Literature
A Divya’s research interests primarily revolve around explorations in the fields of gender, domesticity, spatiality, urbanism, and the interplay between the visual and the literary arts in Nineteenth-Century British literature and culture. After her Master of Studies degree in Early Modern English Literature in the University of Oxford, Divya completed her PhD in Nineteenth- Century English Fiction at Nanyang Technological University. She has published on Charles Dickens, Elizabeth Gaskell, Wilkie Collins and the Pre-Raphaelites. Her current research project traces and maps the British colonial visual culture of Nineteenth-Century India.
Santosh Kumar Sahu Economics
Dr. Sahu completed his doctoral research at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in 2013. Prior to joining at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, he was working at the Madras School of Economics, Chennai. His research interests include industrial economics, energy economics and economics of global climate change. Recently, he received Prof. Raghuram Rajan’s “Young Scholar Grant Programme” to participate the NBER Summer Programme at Boston, USA. The research journals in which he has published include Journal of Economic Studies; Journal of Industry, Competition and Trade; Journal of Energy and Development, Singapore Economic Review and Current Science.
Avishek Parui is Assistant Professor in English and Associate Fellow of UK Higher Education Academy, following his PhD in English Studies (2010-2013) from Durham University where he was also Post-doctoral tutor in English. Prior to joining IIT Madras, Dr Parui had been employed as Assistant Professor at IIT Guwahati from July 2014 till November 2017. His research interests include Modernism, Masculinity Studies and Memory Studies. His work has appeared in SouthAsian Review, Peer English, Katherine Mansfield Studies, Short Fiction in Theory & Practice, Economic & Political Weekly, Routledge Encyclopaedia of Modernism, as well as in edited essay collections from Roman & Littlefield, Liverpool University Press and Fairleigh Dickinson University Press. Dr Parui has a monograph entitled Postmodern Literature forthcoming from Orient Blackswan.
